Charleston, South Carolina
Voted ‘America’s Favorite Destination’ by Conde Nast Traveler, Charleston, South Carolina makes for the perfect weekend getaway.
From historic houses and cobblestone streets, to live oaks dripping with Spanish moss, Charleston is oozing with charm. Maybe it’s the horse-drawn carriage rides, hot pink sunsets or rooftop cocktails. Or the pastel-lined streets, harbor promenade, or James Beard dining. It is just so magnificent.
Weekend Getaway in South Carolina
Where To Stay – The Bea’s Nest
On the Isle of Palms, just 30 minutes out of downtown Charleston, is the Bea’s Nest – a luxurious vacation home, in a quiet coastal neighborhood just a block from the beach.
Once known as ”Bea’s Nest,” 716 Carolina Blvd was originally owned by acclaimed American poetess Beatrice Witte Ravenel. It blends the the rich history of Isle of Palms and Sullivan’s Island with modern touches to provide its guests with an amazing experience steps from the beautiful Carolina beaches. We are excited to share it with you and your family.
Where to Eat
Highly regarded for their food scene, it’s hard to navigate where you should dine, especially if you only have a few days. So I’m only sharing a few to keep your list refined. I also offer additional favorites in my 24 Amazing Things To Do In Charleston post!
Uncork
Kick off your weekend at Uncork, a wine bar for the ‘curious explorer,’ located in the heart of Charleston on King Street. I recommend the charcuterie, truffled mac and cheese and leyla hummus, followed by their famous oreo bomb. And quench your thirst with a variety of wines by taste, self-serve with a pay-as-you-go card. Enjoy happy hour Wednesday through Friday, 5-7pm, for 15% off all pours!
5 Church
Another spot I wouldn’t dare miss is 5 Church, a fabulous cutting-edge restaurant on Market Street that offers in-house dining, as well as, private event catering. I had the opportunity of enjoying their menu at a hosted *luncheon at Merchant’s Hall, an exquisite venue overlooking the City Market, and really the perfect canvas for any soiree. 5 Church lived up to their notoriety with creative crudités, a citrus salad and a to-die-for spicy ahi tuna poke bowl. And topped it off with banana pannacotta + milk chocolate ganache. Trust me on this, make a reservation and eat your heart out. You’ll love it.
*The luncheon was hosted by the Lauren Taylor Law Firm to bring together community tastemakers and influencers – a brilliant example of the Charleston landscape.
The Darling Oyster Bar
A weekend in Charleston is not complete without a spiked Sunday brunch. For the ultimate indulge, I recommend The Darling Oyster Bar on King Street, a well-known vintage raw oyster bar serving up traditional low-country cuisine. Opt for the hush puppies, lobster rolls, shrimp and grits, biscuits and gravy…and of course an oyster sampler. Pair it with the ultimate bloody mary – The Captain, and you have perfected that slow Southern Sunday.
What To Do
Middleton Place
South Carolina is home to some of the nation’s most historic landmarks, including Middleton Place. With the oldest landscaped garden in America, it also happens to be one of the best places to capture beautiful photos. Whether you’re touring the House Museum, exploring the working stables, or enjoying the restaurant and inn, Middleton is just one of those places that carries you away.
Carolina Girl Yacht
Another South Carolina pastime is a sunset cruise around Charleston Harbor. We enjoyed a private sail aboard the Carolina Girl Yacht, a beautiful venue for weddings, rehearsal dinners and corporate events. Nothing quite like the view of The Battery from the water.
The Woodhouse Day Spa
If a weekend getaway translates to rest and relaxation, a trip to The Woodhouse Day Spa is imperative. Enjoy a blissful recharge with chilled champagne and your choice of calming signature services. I recommend the minkyti facial, therapeutic stone massage or warm spiced mud wrap.
Mylkbar
For the ultimate nontoxic mani and pedi, check out Mylkbar in Mount Pleasant – just outside of Charleston.
Mylkbar is the first nail salon franchise system in the USA dedicated to the pursuit of nontoxic self-care. We believe in profits driven by a greater purpose to honor the health of our clients, employees, and the earth.
We hope you are also in the market for a fun, fresh, fume-free place to get pretty and relax. Because everyone deserves fresh air and rosé with their mani pedi in a spot that is super-duper instagrammable!
Largo Salon
And for that perfect blowout, Largo Salon, located downtown Charleston is your go-to. Their super swanky salon offers the ultimate vibe, especially for a girls’ getaway.
Rainbow Row
I’d be remiss not to mention Rainbow Row, a series of 14 homes in bright pastel hues lining the historic waterfront. If you’re looking for that ‘gram-worthy photo, you’ll get it here. It’s as dreamy as it seems.
I hope this post inspired you to make a date with the Holy City, a perfect weekend getaway in South Carolina!
